Step 1

Choosing Your Brand

Choosing a brand is possibly the most important decision in the months and years of owning your vehicle because each brand handles their customers differently. Make sure to check warranty and reviews of each of the brands before purchasing. If they have a long history of excellent customer service then you know they will take care of you when parts have difficulties.

Things to look for

When you first start doing your research on different vehicles it can become very clear that the terms and language they use to describe different parts can be difficult to understand. So we have created a little chart that can help you understand each of these terms.

Battery Size

On many vehicles you will see

Volts
Amp hours
Watts

If you think of the analagy of a bathtub and a drain. The Amp Hours is the size of the tub and the Volts are the size of drain. The larger the volts the faster the tub will drain. The bigger the tub the more water it has to drain.

Motor

Motors are often rated in Watts. A standard bikes usually comes with a 750W motor. The higher the Watts the more power it can consume to get you up the hill.

Controller

Often considered the "Brains of the Operation" the controller handles everything from speed, acceleration, breaking, and heat.

Brakes

Brakes come in three main types.

1. Mechanical Disc Breaks (Most Common)
2. Hydaulic Disc Breaks (Most preferred)
3. Drum Breaks (Often found in smaller scooters)

Tires

Each vehicle type has different types of tires. Here is the short list. If you want more information click on the "Read More" Link

Scooters - Air-filled (Pneumatic and Tubeless), Honeycomb, Solid rubber, Road, and Off-road

Skateboards - Park, Cruiser, Longboard, Off-road

Deck

The comfort of riding one of these vehicles often depends on how open or cramped the deck is. But having too large of a deck can often lead to vehicles that are overweight and cumbersome. Finding a good balance is key.
